Be aware 24/7

PapparraziSaturday afternoon, I was walking to meet a friend for lunch and speaking on the phone, not really paying total attention to everyone around me–in fact, who really does??

A woman stopped me and said, "I don’t want to alarm you, however there is a man in a black SUV taking pictures of you…" I saw what she was talking about and I was more curious then alarmed at first. Maybe it was the paparazzi!! 🙂 It wasn’t.

However-I did walk over and he is snapping away and I said–"who are you and what are you doing?"

"Are you Jane…. " and described that she was a the victim of a major crime case in New York City at this time. He then identified himself as being from the Press and showed his ID and said, "this is the part of my job that I don’t like."

I, of course told him that I was not Jane–however I was an author, speaker and consultant–(again, you never know) and he was very nice and drove away.

The point and lesson learned to me was two fold:

*Be aware –you never know who might be around you and how you can stay protected

*I helped him–if I had not gone over, thanks to the mysterious woman who was observant and reached out to me, he may have printed false identity and then the story would have taken another turn and not good

Another day in New York–you just never know.

Radar Magazine wrote a piece on the incident here.
