I had such a fun lunch with a good friend that I had met ten years ago when we were both at a seminar and she just attended my last public workshop.
We really got to catch up today and she is one of the funniest and brightest people I know.
As a corporate sales trainer for a large organization, she had some great stories about the professional etiquette that sometimes comes through her company's door.
One story that stood out was the appearance and dress of a trainee and also that of an outside vendor whose firm does alot of business with her company.
* The trainee came to class dressed in a suit–however he was wearing a teal tie and matching teal 'sock's.
* The vendor came for a two day meeting to explain a new system–the first day he had on a black suit, black shoes and 'white sweat socks' and the second day—-the same suit and this time the socks were black 'anklets'.
As I have often said–'you can't make this up'.
The first thing we notice about someone is their appearance and we usually have 3-5 seconds to make an impression. If in doubt, leave it out and even in today's world with casual dress–be sure to check with someone to make sure you are appropriate.
