"Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Wishing is not enough; we must do."
Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, Author
Happy Spring- and as you are doing your Spring cleaning both mentally and physically –professionally and personally, here are some thoughts to remember as we Communicate with all of those that come into our many networks of life.
C—Confidence is powerful. Everyday we learn more through our experiences and the feedback we receive. True confidence comes from everyday growth.
O—Be open-minded, ask open-ended questions to learn and view every encounter as an opportunity to grow.
M—The only person who can motivate us is ourself. Others inspire us-yet we are in charge of our own motivation.
M—Manage your time, (we all have the same amount each day) and manage the messages you speak and present every day.
U—As Steven Covey says, “Seek first to understand” view every opportunity as unique.
N—Nurture your relationships—think of one form of the marketing mix of how you will nurture the different people in your life. For example, send someone today an ‘unexpected card’ to say hello, show appreciation or to touch base.
I—Idea sharing is the best learning of all. Every time I interact with someone, I learn to share thoughts, strategies and ideas. Become interested in others and take the initiative to learn.
C—Cultivate relationships and create opportunities and alliances with those in your growing community of friends, contacts, prospects and clients- everywhere in life.
A—Ask people for help and guidance and also appreciate those that you are fortunate to have in your life. As I leaned many years ago as a Dale Carnegie instructor—‘Attitude is everything’
( Here is a little quiz---Take the word “attitude”—give each letter a number.... A-1; T-20; E-5
Add up all the numbers and you get 100—which is what our attitude needs to be)
T—Be a team player—learn how to continually work and communicate with each personality style. It causes us to become more flexible, however it is not always easy to implement.
E—Empathy is powerful. Ethics is priority. Put all of these tools and the skills you already possess into action and execution.
Action exercises going forward:
Ask your friends and clients-what are the 3 words that come to mind when they think of you or your company
Read a book or article this week and pick up one idea and implement it
Write down at the end of the week:
What did I learn?
How was I more creative?
What inspired me?
How did I grow?
